Increasing clouds resulting from a weakening upper level trough moving in from the west has kept ozone levels from rising out of the upper Code GREEN range this afternoon. Isolated shower activity is possible later this evening as the trough axis passes through the Triad, but precipitation chances should effectively end by sunrise tomorrow as the trough departs to the east. Upper level ridging quickly builds over the Triad tomorrow and should rapidly decrease cloud cover through the morning. The upstream source region is currently Code GREEN over the Tennessee/Ohio Valley, but abundant solar radiation and light winds should allow for decent ozone production to build upon existing concentrations and will likely elevate AQI to low Code YELLOW tomorrow afternoon. More of the same is expected for Thursday as the high pressure ridge remains over the Carolinas, with warmer temperatures allowing for additional ozone production to potentially elevate AQI into the middle Code YELLOW range. High pressure begins to slide offshore on Friday as an upper level disturbance approaches from the west. Precipitation will likely hold off through the daylight hours on Friday, but the increase in cloud cover and low-level moisture will likely dampen ozone production enough to lower AQI towards the lower end of the Code YELLOW range.
