Resources
Forsyth Community Gardening offers a wide range of educational and organizing resources, which are
available to all gardens. We are also pleased to offer some material and financial resources to registered community gardens
in Forsyth County.
Check out our Printed Materials page
for a wealth of information on community gardening topics, from starting a new garden, to soil management,
to curricula for children and youth, and everything in between.
Our FCG Documents page has guides and forms to help you start or revitalize a garden, submit soil samples for free pH and nutrient testing,
apply for financial assistance to test for soil contaminants, and track your garden harvests.
Below, you will find more information about our Tool Lending and Seed Bank programs for registered Forsyth County community gardens.
Forsyth Community Gardening’s Tool Lending program is operated out of the tool shed
at the Forsyth County Agricultural Building. If you would like to check out tools, please
follow these steps:
- Look at the Tool Inventory & Picture Guide to see what tools are available for lending and
what they can be used for.
- Review Forsyth Community Gardening's Tool Lending Policy and Liability Waiver. You will be asked to
sign this form indicating your agreement with the policy upon picking up tools. Please note that a $25
deposit is required to check out hand tools and a $50 deposit is required for power tools
(e.g., mini-tiller). When you come to pick up tools, please bring a check.
- Tools are lent out on a first come, first serve basis. To arrange a tool pick-up
or drop off, or if you have questions about tool lending, please contact Urban Agriculture
Program Assistant Tembila Covington at covingtc@forsyth.cc or 336-703-2859.
Seed Bank
Forsyth Community Gardening
maintains a Seed Bank with vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, which are distributed
free to community gardens registered with our program.
To set a time to pick up seeds, please call 336-703-2850 or stop by the Forsyth
County Agricultural Building from Monday
through Friday between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. To make sure you’re planting during the
ideal season for each crop, review our Piedmont Garden Calendar
and NC State’s Vegetable Planting Guide for the Piedmont.
If you would like to donate seed packets to the Seed Bank, please email Cameron at waterscs@forsyth.cc or give us a call at 336-703-2853.
